New Guildmistress

I am pleased to announce that the new Guildmistress for St. Anne’s Guild of Clothiers is Mestressa Beatriz Aluares de la Oya!

Although I am sad to be stepping down from my role after only a two-year post, I know that I’m leaving the Guild in very capable and enthusiastic hands. Beatriz is an excellent costumer specializing in Hispano-Flemish clothing. Recently, she has made a successful foray into Rus clothing. She teaches and organizes like a professional costumer. I am so happy that she is taking over the leadership of the Guild.

Please join me in welcoming her into her newest role in the SCA, Guildmistress of the St. Anne’s Guild of Clothiers!

Notes for Introduction to Pewter Casting from Christopher MacConing

I wanted to send along a couple of quick notes regarding “Introduction to Pewter Casting” and “Hands-on Casting Lab” to be held at the upcoming Atlantia Academy of Rapier and Costume Symposium:

Introduction to Pewter Casting will be an overview of the pewter casting process using carved stone molds, from design carving to pouring and cleanup. As this is a costuming symposium (and due to high request), the last part of the class will be discussions on the creation of buttons.

The Hands-On Casting Lab will allow those interested the opportunity to try casting themselves. Also, any casters who want to discuss a mold they are working on/having trouble with are welcome to bring it along for discussion or advice if desired.

Those attending should be aware that they will be pouring hot metal. If possible, please refrain from wearing clothing with loose/baggy material in the arms, and have something to keep your hair back if it is of a long nature. Shirts with long sleeves and closed toe shoes are highly encouraged. I will have safety glasses, aprons, and gloves on-hand.

Should you have any questions regarding the classes, do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time.

V/R,

Christopher MacConing, OL
Provost

Someone Roman This Way Comes => CANCELLED

Lady Laelia sends her regrets that the Roman garb Q&A session “Someone Roman This Way Comes” on Saturday July 7 is cancelled. The lack of electricity at her home since the Mid-Atlantic storm rolled through last Friday has compromised her ability to prepare for class.

For those of you who sent RSVPs, she offers individual consults at her home before Pennsic if your schedules line up with hers. Please contact her at Laelia dot info at gmail dot com to schedule a time to meet with her.

Are you all counting down the days to Pennsic? I know I am!
